چکیده

We present a technique to reconstruct dilated lateral brain ventricles, indicative for preterm brain pathologies, in three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound (US) volumes. A sequence of two-dimensional (2D) US images is reconstructed into an isotropic 3D volume using magnetic probe tracking information and specialized software. Subsequently, a slice by slice 2D ventricle area delineation is performed in the reconstructed volume, based on combined contrast enhancement, thresholding and mathematical morphology. Finally, these 2D delineations are smoothed and merged into a 3D ventricle. Initial results are presented on US volumes from 2 preterm infants.

Clinical application of three-dimensional ultrasound in fetal brain assessment.

AIM To clarify the usefulness of three-dimensional (3D) ultrasound in the assessment of the fetal head and brain, according to 3D ultrasound surface reconstruction, multiplanar image analysis, three-dimensional angiography, and volume calculation. METHODS We examined 326 normal fetuses between 10 and 40 weeks of gestation using 3D ultrasound (Voluson, 530D, Medison, Seoul, Korea), mainly with...

Multi-view 3D Reconstruction with Volumetric Registration in a Freehand Ultrasound Imaging System

In this paper, we describe a new freehand ultrasound imaging system for reconstructing the left ventricle from 2D echocardiography slices. An important contribution of the proposed system is its ability to reconstruct from multiple standard views. The multi-view reconstruction procedure results in significant reduction in reconstruction error over single view reconstructions. The system uses ob...

Dynamical Segmentation of the Left Ventricle in Echocardiographic Image Sequences

This paper presents a new methodology for the analysis of echocardiographic image sequences. The echocardiographic medical exam is a frequent practice in the cardiology clinic, and generally there is bi-dimensional echocardiographic equipment. We have developed a new processing chain that will allow a medical diagnosis issued from a 3D reconstruction of the ultrasound images. The project is div...

Lateral Ventricle Segmentation of 3D Pre-term Neonates US Using Convex Optimization

Intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) is a common disease among preterm infants with an occurrence of 12-20% in those born at less than 35 weeks gestational age. Neonates at risk of IVH are monitored by conventional 2D ultrasound (US) for hemorrhage and potential ventricular dilation. Compared to 2D US relying on linear measurements from a single slice and visually estimates to determine ventricula...

PURE: Panoramic Ultrasound Reconstruction by Seamless Stitching of Volumes

For training sonographers in navigating, acquiring, and interpreting ultrasound images, virtual-reality based simulation offers a safe, flexible, and standardized environment. In data-based training simulations, images from a-priori acquired volumes are displayed to the trainee. To understand the relationship between organs, it is necessary to allow for free exploration of the entire anatomy, w...
